National Pie Day
Yesterday was National Pie Day, an unofficial holiday to celebrate that baked dish made out of pastry dough and filled with something tasty. This annual celebration of pies was started in the mid-1970s by the American nuclear engineer, brewer and teacher Charlie Papazian after he declared his own birthday, January 23, to be National Pie Day.
Pies are one of the most versatile food compositions. They can be sweet or savoury, filled with gravy or sauce. They come in all shapes, sizes and flavours.
