The World Cup and Animal Clairvoyants
Many people may remember Paul the Octopus who had a great track record of predicting the results of football games involving Germany in Euro 2008 and World Cup 2010. Unfortunately, like all common octopi, Paul had a short lifespan of 2.5 years so is no longer with us for this #WorldCup2018. But fear not, he has been replaced by other animal clairvoyants.
Our favourite contender for Paul’s title is Mystic Marcus, the micro pig who has predicted that Belgium, Argentina, Nigeria and Uruguay will be quarterfinalists in this year’s competition. Mystic Marcus did this through a process of elimination, eating apples placed around him in a circle until only 4 with the flags of the remaining teams were left; a porcine version of eeny, meeny, miny, moe? We wouldn’t recommend this as a way to select your pensions portfolio. This is why when reviewing your pension it is worth talking to a regulated financial adviser and TPAS can help you with the right questions to ask.
Whilst Paul the Octopus and Mystic Marcus may have demonstrated skills in predicting the future, it may have been chance and, like human beings, their ability to predict the future is questionable. This inability to look into the future is one reason why we should be wary of those that try to get us to invest in the next best investment for your pension with a promise of guaranteed high returns. If someone is promising investment returns that sound too good to be true, don’t hesitate to give us a call on 0800 011 3797. One prediction we are happy to make is that you might regret not talking to us about such potentially damaging investments.
