Sorting out your pension could improve your relationship!
Research carried out by NEST (The National Employment Savings Trust) has discovered that people value financial capability in a partner twice as highly as good looks. 45% of those in long-term relationships said that they value an ability to manage finances well, compared with 20% who value good looks.
89% believe that good financial planning is important for happy relationships. And NEST found that pension saving is now one of people's top 3 financial priorities when in 2011, it was behind buying shoes and socialising.
So if you get your pension saving organised, it might even rev up your relationship!
If you have decided that it's time to sort out your pension savings, a good place to start is to check whether your employer has a pension scheme. If it does, see if you are eligible to join it. Pension saving is tax efficient and you might even get contributions from your employer to boost your savings even more.
All employers, starting with the largest first, will eventually have to have a pension scheme, and automatically enrol all eligible employees into it. Read more about automatic enrolment on our website here.
If your employer has not yet reached its staging date (the date by when it has to do this) you could take out your own pension. Read more about choosing a pension for yourself here.
Our mission is to make pensions accessible to everyone, so if there is anything you do not understand, please contact us and we will be pleased to help. To discuss any pension-related issue:
