FCA issues warnings about unauthorised financial services firms
The The Financial Conduct Authority has issued a number of warnings about firms it believes are providing financial services without authorisation; RBS Bourse, Capital Trust Ventures, Andersen Consulting (UK) and Beckett & Cromwell.
The FCA says that these firms are not authorised by them but have been targeting people in the UK. In its warnings, the FCA stated almost all companies and individuals offering, promoting or selling financial services or products in the UK have to be authorised by the regulator. Some firms who act without authorisation knowingly run scams where fraudsters cold-call investors offering them worthless, overpriced or even non-existent investments. These scams promise high returns, but those who invest usually end up losing their money.
