Baroness Turner of Camden (1927-2018)
Muriel Turner, Baroness Turner of Camden (1927-2018)
Looking back on the past year we wanted to honour the life and great work of Baroness Turner of Camden. Baroness Turner had a long and distinguished career in the trade union movement. Despite missing out on the opportunity to go to university, the Baroness continued learning and a developing her skills throughout her career. In 1985 she was created a Life Peer and continued to champion the causes of social welfare and pensions. Through her work on pensions, Baroness Turner was appointed to the board of the Occupational Pensions Advisory Service, the precursor to TPAS. The Baroness served on our board from 1989 to 2007, seeing the service grow from a relatively small charity into a government-backed public service. Baroness Turner passed away at the age of 90 having achieved so much in her life. We are forever grateful for the commitment and hard work Baroness Turner gave to our service.
