Future Pension Reforms

In this section, you will find information about upcoming pension reforms, which come into effect at various times from 2010 onwards. 

The main reforms are:

• the introduction of auto-enrolment in 2012;
• the introduction of the National Employment Savings Trust (NEST) in 2012;
• increasing the state pension in line with earnings (rather than prices) from 2012; and
• the abolition of contracting out on a defined contribution basis (coming into force April 2012)
