The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has out lined some
changes to the automatic enrolment rules to help small
employers.
- The timetable for automatic enrolment has been changed so that
employers with fewer than 50 employees will not have to start
enrolling staff before May 2015.
- This affects employers with fewer than 50 employees in their
PAYE scheme as at 1 April 2012.
- The step-up for employers from paying a minimum 1% contribution
to paying 2% has also been delayed to make sure that all employers
have reached their automatic enrolment date first. The same
timetable applies to defined benefit and hybrid schemes in the
interests of fairness.
The new regulations come into force on 1 October 2012.
