BBC poll suggests people no longer believe in retirement

09 September 2010

A recent BBC Newsnight poll suggests that retirement as we know it is no longer an option.

70% of the 1,000 people questioned, thought it would not be possible for them to stop work and survive on a pension for the next 30 years.

72% of the people that were still in work were concerned that the funds they are saving for retirement will not be sufficient enough for them to lead the lifestyle they wished to lead after giving up work.

77% felt that the younger people of today would have a harder time than them in retirement and 54% felt that it was unfair that younger people would not have the same opportunities as those who are retiring today.
