Pension scheme benefits are still the benefit most important and
valued employee benefit. The research by Canada Life showed that
pensions came out top followed by income protection. Next was
holiday allowance with life assurance and basic health insurance
completing the top five perks. Redundancy cover only came in at
seventh.
More than two-thirds of staff regarded benefits as important
when deciding whether to accept a job. There were also marked
differences between the sexes. 68% of women received no benefits
compared with only 29% of men.
Last year only 40% considered their benefit package as important
with this figure rising to 52% this year. Paul Avis, sales and
marketing director at Canada Life, said: "In periods of recession,
people want to protect what they already have."
