Pensions Insight has polled pension managers and consultants on
their preferred election when asked the question "Which political
party would be best for the pensions industry?". According to the
polls a Conservative victory would be the best for occupational
pensions, winning 49% of the votes.
"It is clear that many of our readers believe the Conservatives
have the most friendly policies for occupational pensions, in
particular the pledge to reverse the abolition of dividend tax
credits," said Pensions Insight editor Bob Campion. "Labour is
offering business as usual, and the Liberal Democrats propose a far
more radical strategy, including scrapping higher rate tax relief
on pensions."
While the Tories came out top in the Pensions Insight
reader poll, Labour was in second place on 21%. The Liberal Dems
were tied with the "None of the above" option on 15%. Readers who
supported the Lib Dems wanted a more re-distributive approach to
taxation, while Labour voters back the current programme of
pensions reform, and Conservative supporters wanted a tough
approach on the economy, plus a positive approach to pension
saving. The remainder had little confidence in the three main
parties and elected for the "None of the above" option.
