Cameron makes retirement age pledge

01 March 2010

David Cameron revealed that should the Conservatives win the upcoming general election they will raise the basic state pension as well as the retirement age.

Mr Cameron said: "We've made a tough choice. We have said that from 2016, we are going to move the retirement age a year later. People are living longer in this country, people are having longer and happier retirements, and I think it is right to say we should move that retirement age."
