Abolition of contracting out

15 March 2010

According to a Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) news item, the Government has confirmed that the option to contract out of the additional State Pension (i.e. the State Second Pension) will be abolished from 6 April 2012.

Individuals who are still actively contracted out by way of a Defined Contribution pension scheme, such as a defined contribution occupational pension scheme or personal pension/stakeholder pension scheme will be automatically brought back into the additional State Pension from this date.
