Coca-Cola staff considers strike action

08 June 2010

World Cup sponsors Coca -Cola have been threatened with strike action over a dispute about pay and pensions by the trade unions, Unite and GMB.

Unite and GMB claim they have been frozen out of talks with the employer over proposals to force employees in the defined benefit scheme to work until age 65 instead of 60, unless they are willing to lose up to a quarter of their pension.

GMB said a ballot of more than two thousand UK employees on industrial action is expected to occur before the end of June and strikes could take place in July.

Coca-Cola say changes to the defined benefit scheme were made after a full consultation process.
