Government consider early access to pensions

09 December 2010

Speaking at the Pensions Policy Institute yesterday, Mark Hoban, financial secretary to the Treasury said the government will issue a call for evidence on early access to pension funds later this month.

In May of this year, the coalition government pledged it would explore the possibility of allowing early access to pensions in a bid to boost their appeal.

Mr Hoban said his "main priority is to ensure any policy changes are focussed on encouraging more people to save more towards their retirement, and we need to remain aware of the risks to people's retirement income of increased flexibility."
