Tories pledge to scrap Eq Life means test

06 April 2010

The Conservatives say they will scrap means testing for Equitable Life victims if they are elected. Treasury spokesman Mark Hoban, has pledged to compensate all policyholders and dependents of those who have died.

According to The Scotsman newspaper, the Conservatives said the Treasury has earmarked £1bn for compensation.

The current government compensation scheme will mean only those who have been 'disproportionately affected' by the collapse of Equitable Life will receive compensation.
