Ageism victim awarded 1m

14 September 2009

An Employment Appeals Tribunal (EAT) has awarded a record £1m compensation for age discrimination after it found that Tower Hamlets council had unfairly dismissed John Wooster.

Seven months before turning 50, Mr Wooster was made redundant by the council which meant that he had to wait until the age of 65 to claim his pension. Had he been made redundant over the age of 50 he would have been able to claim his pension almost immediately.
