New Deputy Ombudsman appointed

The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions has appointed Jane Irvine to be Deputy Pensions Ombudsman).  She will succeed outgoing Deputy Charlie Gordon.

Ms Irvine practised as a chartered surveyor for 16 years before re-qualifying to act as a chartered arbitrator and accredited mediator. She was a lay inspector within HM Inspectorate of Constabulary for Scotland from 2001 until 2004, reviewing complaints lodged against the police in Scotland. She also chaired a working group reviewing legislation governing police complaint and conduct issues.

More recently she was Chair of the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission. From 2006 to 2008 she was the Scottish Legal Services Ombudsman. She is also a member of the disciplinary board of the Faculty and Institute of Actuaries. She is expected to take up her new duties in mid-November.
