High Court backs Equitable victims

The High Court has ruled that the Government acted illegally when it rejected the Parliamentary Ombudsman's recommendations on how to compensate victims of Equitable Life and has given the Treasury 21 days to outline the actions it will take.

The Equitable Members Action Group (EMAG) challenged the Government's decision to only compensate for losses accrued after 1999 when the Parliamentary Ombudsman recommended that compensation should cover losses from July 1991.
