The High Court has ruled that the Government acted illegally
when it rejected the Parliamentary Ombudsman's recommendations on
how to compensate victims of Equitable Life and has given the
Treasury 21 days to outline the actions it will take.
The Equitable Members Action Group (EMAG) challenged the
Government's decision to only compensate for losses accrued after
1999 when the Parliamentary Ombudsman recommended that compensation
should cover losses from July 1991.
