State Pension set to rise

13 October 2009

The Basic State Pension is increased each April in line with the preceding September's Retail Price Index (RPI) annual inflation figure. This has just been announced as minus 1.4%. However, the Government confirmed in a recent budget its commitment to increasing the basic state pension by a minimum of 2.5% per annum.

Since we have had deflation for the month of September the Basic State Pension is likely to be increased by around £2.40 a week from next April. The full Basic State Pension currently stands at £95.25. No official announcement has yet been made on any benefit rates for next year.
