Research carried out by Watson Wyatt for Financial Mail
on longevity, which allocated a 'mortality ranking' to every UK
postcode district, found that where you live can affect your life
expectancy by up to eight years.
The research was designed to help employers estimate the cost of
their pension plans and revealed that 15.4 out of 1,000 men aged 65
and living in Kilbirnie, Ayrshire will die in the next 12 months,
whereas only 6.4 in 1,000 men in Montacute, Somerset will die in
the next 12 months.
Ten in 1,000 is the UK average.
