HSBC Actuaries and Consultants has been fined £875,000 by the
Financial Services Authority (FSA) for losing an unencrypted floppy
disk in the post containing personal information of 1,917 pension
scheme members in April 2007. The lost data included addresses,
dates of birth and National Insurance numbers.
In addition, HSBC Life UK and HSBC Insurance Brokers were also
fined £1.6m and £700,000 respectively, for not having proper
systems and controls in place to protect their customers'
confidential details from being lost or stolen.
