Full Equitable pay-outs fade

14 January 2009

Yvette Cooper, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury is expected to tell MPs tomorrow that the government will establish an independent tribunal to calculate the level of compensation that should be paid for Equitable Life members.

Although the government is expected to accept the findings of the report, which said Equitable members should be compensated, it is likely to stop short of agreement to full redress. Any compensation is believed to be concentrated on the hardest hit pensioners.
