State Pension and benefit payments, as well as new passport and
driving licence applications face disruption after nearly 300,000
civil servants voted to stage industrial action. The move by
members of the Public and Commercial Services union could result in
a winter of industrial action across government departments and
agencies.
Industrial action was backed by 54 per cent of those who took
part in the ballot, according to the union, which represents
270,000 workers.
The union's executive will meet on Thursday to decide a
programme of industrial action, which could stretch to
Christmas.
