Research carried out by Liverpool Victoria has revealed that
around two-thirds of the over-50s fear they face an impoverished
retirement. Their concerns are so common that experts have come up
with a name for them. They are Freds, which stands for Facing
Retirement Earning DoubtS.
An estimated 6.5million 'Freds' say the economic crunch has made
them increasingly anxious about their financial security with
soaring food prices and energy bills to be the biggest concerns. Of
the 1,655 over-50s involved in the research, 77 per cent said these
inflation-busting bills posed a very real threat to their
retirement income.
