Stockmarket plunge wipes 8bn from pension funds

Sparked by the near collapse of American bank Bear Sterns, the FTSE 100 dropped 3.9% with serious implications for pension funds. The recent credit crunch has reduced the surplus of the 200 biggest final salary funds from £15bn on Friday afternoon to £7bn last night.
