Test case on age discrimination begins 2 July 2008

17 June 2008

A test case on age discrimination which goes to the European court of justice in Luxembourg early next month could open the way for employees in Britain to insist on working past 65.

If Heyday, the membership arm of Age Concern, wins the case it could also allow hundred of workers forced into retirement to claim compensation from their former employers. The 2 July hearing date is months earlier than expected and a final decision could come by the end of the year.
