The BBC pension fund has revealed that it is in surplus to the
tune of £275m, from its June actuarial valuation.
But the broadcaster has come under fire from union BECTU for
apparently going back on a January agreement to increase its
contributions to the scheme. The BBC had agreed with BECTU that the
contributions from both employees and the BBC would increase. The
BBC was going to pay £184m to keep the fund out of the red.
BECTU says that the agreement must now be reviewed to prevent
unfairness to the members. Strike action could be on the cards if a
suitable deal cannot be reached.
