Sixty six year old part-time judge Paul Hampton, who was forced
into retirement at age 65, won an unprecedented age discrimination
case at the London South Employment Tribunal Office.
Mr Hampton may receive up to £200,000 compensation if the
Ministry of Justice refuses to let him return to sit in his former
role as a recorder.
The case raises the question of whether the Ministry, which has
until the 12 February to decide whether to appeal, can carry on
with compulsory retirement for recorders who reach 65 in the
2007-08 financial year.
