DWP launch study on means-tested benefits on Personal Accounts

11 February 2008

James Purnell, the work and pensions secretary is to launch a study into the impact of means-tested benefits on personal accounts.

Mr Purnell said the study will investigate how many workers could end up no better off despite saving into the national pension scheme, which the Government hope to introduce in 2012. The study will also come up with possible solutions to the problem.

Help the Aged, The Pensions Policy Institute, and opposition parties have been invited to contribute to the study. The government is expected to publish a report on means-tested benefits after the Pensions Bill has become law.
