Negative outlook towards public pension reforms

21 April 2008

According to research from Axa, 91% of Britons are concerned that public pension reforms will mean an increase in the number of years they will have to work and a reduction in state benefits.

Despite this, the survey showed that 57% of workers believed they would have enough money to sustain them in retirement, with 64% of retirees saying their current income was enough - compared to 57% last year.

Steve Folkard, head of pensions and savings policy at Axa commented: "The research shows that a significant number of people are sure that retirement reform will lead to reduced public pension benefit and with this in mind, we would advise people to take steps as early as possible to secure their own retirement income."
