Employer pension contributions fall

Employer contributions to pension schemes fell last year for the first time since they began to rise at the turn of the century.

According to recent Office for National Statistics data which cover self-administered company sponsored pension schemes, £33.6bn was contributed in total in 2007, down from £34.6bn in 2006. Of that, special contributions aimed at making up scheme deficits were down from £13.2bn to £12.6bn.
