Following a study carried out by Pensions Week, UK pension funds
remain unconvinced by the buyout market, despite a surge of
activity from new entrants.
Half of the scheme managers surveyed said current buyout
propositions did not present a viable solution to funding problems,
with 57% of those surveyed felt that the buyout market would never
be more than an alternative funding option that was only available
to small schemes.
There were some schemes that questioned the ability of
investment banks to cope with pension management on a daily basis,
although they felt that recent developments in the buyout market
had made it more accessible.
