Agreement expected on new NHS staff pension arrangements

04 September 2007

According to the GMB trade union, an agreement over the new staff pension arrangements for the NHS is due to be signed off this week. Although the final wording was still being discussed, there were still ongoing negotiations over employee contribution rates and governance procedures.

NHS staff currently contribute 5 or 6% of salary, but future contributions will range from 5% to 8.5% depending on pay bands. GMB added it was keen to define the guidelines of the scheme's governance committee to increase the level of influence and control held by unions over the scheme.
