Wind-up victims promised improved compensation

21 November 2007

Pensions reform minister, Mike O'Brien said that company pension scheme wind-up victims will hear news on their fight for better compensation in the very near future.

Mr O'Brien said that he could not make the commitment to boost the levels of the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) compensation payments to that of the Pension Protection Fund (PPF) but promised improvements would be made following the final report from the Young Review into how best to use assets in collapsed pension schemes.

He said: "These people have suffered an injustice and I would like to help them more. We hope we can do better going forward. I can not give that commitment in that way at present but I will be interested to see what Andrew Young has to say."
