State Pension rebate for mothers

12 November 2007

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) have confirmed that women who gave up work to look after their children but missed out on basic state pension credits under Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP) due to insufficient record keeping, are in line for a windfall of around £3,000.

Ministers have promised to review social security records dating back to the 1970s to identify mothers who are over or nearing state pension age and are recorded as not being entitled to a full basic state pension.
