State Pension Numbers Increase

21 May 2007

The Department for Work and Pensions has reported an increase in the number of people receiving the state pension, rising to almost 12 million individuals up until November 2006.

This represents an increase of 145,000 on like figures for the previous years. The DWP's figures show that 62 per cent of claimants were women, and 66 per cent of claimants were not receiving any other benefit.

Meanwhile, the three million people who claimed Pension Credit represented an increase of 31,000 on like figures for a year earlier. Of those receiving Pension Credit 798,000 claimed Guarantee Credit only while 1.33 million claimed Guarantee and Savings Credit.
