Hutton hints at 3k cap on pensions savings

A hint by John Hutton, the pensions secretary, that the government may revert to a £3,000-a-year cap on the amount employers and employees can put into the planned national pensions account brought an angry reaction yesterday from manufactoring employers and the Equal Opportunities Commission.

Lord Turner's pension commission initially proposed a £3,000 limit, but the government has said it might raise that to £5,000 to help median earners.
