Court of Appeal hearing opened in pension's security case

26 July 2007

The Court of Appeal hearing in the Government's appeal against a High Court decision which ruled it was wrong to reject the decision of Parliamentary Ombudsman, Ann Abraham, in the pension's security case, has opened.

Last year, Ann Abraham recommended that the Government should compensate victims who had lost their pensions when their schemes collapsed. However, the Government claimed it was not responsible.

Last February, a High Court judge upheld the Ombudsman's decision, but also found that the Government's alleged maladministration had not caused the injustice.
