38 per cent of small business owners have no pension scheme in
place for either themselves or their staff, according to a survey
by Unicom.
Telecoms specialists Unicom asked its customers: "As a business
owner or manager, do you have a pension scheme in place for (a)
yourself (b) your staff?" 38 per cent of respondents said they had
no pension scheme in place for either themselves or their
staff.
45 per cent of the small business owners questioned said that
they did have a pension plan in place for themselves, but did not
have one for their staff, while only 15 per cent said they had
pension plans in place for both themselves and their staff.
In total, the survey found that only 17 per cent of small
business staff currently benefit from a pension plan, meaning that
83 per cent will arrive at retirement with no employer-provided
pension.
