An MP this week launched a bid to help more than half a million
British expats whose state pension payments are not increased.
UK citizens who retire to certain Commonwealth countries,
including Australia, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand, have
their state pensions frozen at the rate they are receiving when
they retire or leave Britain.
Pensioners who emigrate to Europe or the US, on the other hand,
receive the same annual increases as those who stay in the UK.
Labour MP Michael Connarty has now tabled an Early Day Motion on
the issue.
