TPAS Chief Executive, Malcolm McLean warns that firms selling
pension products have set up web sites to "piggyback" on The
Pensions Advisory Service's name and reputation.
Three new sites - which have web addresses very similar to
TPAS's - have been registered this year and mean any unsuspecting
browser looking for free general pensions information could end up
viewing pages dedicated to selling pension products.
Mr McLean said: "We are taking legal advice because this is
completely unacceptable to us. We were first made aware of the
problem when I mentioned our state pension age calculator, which is
available online, on a television programme."
Mr McLean went on to say that the differences in the web
addresses were very subtle and easy to confuse with TPAS's official
website of www.pensionsadvisoryservice.org.uk.
