Proposed tube strikes may be averted

31 August 2007

Next weeks planned industrial action on the tubes could yet be called off by unions representing Metronet staff. A series of strikes are due to start on Monday over job losses and pensions.

Union leaders will discuss the matter today after London's mayor Ken Livingstone said he would seek assurances in the matter.

The union's have welcomed Mr Livingstone's commitment but said they required similar guarantees from both Metronet and the administrator before calling off the strikes.
