The Association of British Insurers has launched a campaign to
raise public awareness of the need to save money now for a
comfortable retirement.
The 'Save More Now' campaign aims to bring together trade
associations, consumer groups and other organisations to spread the
message that people shouldn't wait until currently-planned pension
reforms take effect to start saving, or to save more.
In an article for July's Pensions Age magazine, Chris Kenny, the
ABI's Director of Life and Pensions, writes: "We want to build a
coalition of influential organisations and individuals, including
politicians, pensions experts, consumer groups, employers'
organisations and financial services bodies to press home the 'Save
More Now' message.
"It would be ironic - and tragic - if growing interest in future
pension reform led to a decline in saving for pensions today. We
will be working to forge a genuine and lasting consensus on the
need to 'Save More Now'."
The ABI's Director General, Stephen
Haddrill, has written to prospective coalition members to ask them
to sign up to a joint statement on the need to 'Save More Now'. A
web site, www.abi.org.uk/savemorenow has been set up to provide
information for consumers on retirement saving.
